Tracing Spaces

“There is a very practical sense in which to trace even an imaginary route is to trace the spirit or thought of what passed there before.” - Rebecca Solnit

Tracing Spaces invites viewers to consider the labyrinth as a metaphor for the artistic process. The journey of creation, reflection, and exhibition mirrors the inward and outward movements of a labyrinth. The gallery space, itself a repository of artistic endeavors, becomes a sacred space for contemplation. By tracing the footsteps of past artists and viewers, we become part of a collective artistic journey.

The hanging shrine mirrors the center of a labyrinth - establishing a space within a space. Viewers are invited to leave a note inside. The print screens contain tracings of the gallery space itself and symbolize a residue of past works in this space.

“Watch your step,” pilgrim.
